![]() ![]() POSTAL Redux, on the other hand, supports both control types flawlessly. I used an Xbox One controller to play the original game and had no problems, however I couldn’t get the keyboard and mouse controls to work as I wanted. I’m not sure why those levels are top-down but that’s what it is. ![]() I would say POSTAL is an isometric twin stick shooter even though a few levels are played from the top-down perspective. It’s definitely not the focus of the game. There is no character development and the story is never really fleshed out. I’ll refer to him as the Postal Dude since that was the name given to the protagonist in POSTAL 2 and they’re both voiced by the same voice actor. He believes the Air Force is releasing poison gas and only he is immune to its effects. From what I’ve researched online, you’re playing as a schizophrenic man who has been evicted from his home. I don’t own nor have I ever seen a physical copy so I have no idea. I’m guessing the story was established on the box or manual from the original retail release. With that said I am going to cover the original POSTAL and POSTAL Redux in this review.Īs far as I can tell the story isn’t really developed as you play. I had already owned the original game and by that I mean the Steam version with support for modern hardware and full Xbox 360 controller support. In fact, the only reason I even played it was because Steam had POSTAL Redux on Sale and I thought “sure, what the hell”. I never really gave the original game a chance until now. It’s a hilarious and controversial game that has no shame and is kept alive today thanks to constant support from the developers at Running With Scissors including recent DLC. POSTAL 2 is crude, rude, offensive, and I love it. I'm coming to learn that bad games are often remembered for what they are rather than what they lacked.I think most players are more familiar with POSTAL 2 than the first game. Yes postal is great but I don't get to burn down houses or ram a car into a shopping mall in postal, or gta, or state of emergency. An annoyingly badly made game with lazier later levels but worth puting up with since nothing really exists that fills that same void. I put hatred in the same catagory as Jaws unleashed. I mean it's silly to pretend they are not similiar and even sillier to think that one somehow cancels out the other. It seems that guy wasn't aware that RWS also went to the hatred forums to promote their game. I disagree with the idea that hatred is an "awesome game" but I do agree that they can both benifet eachother. Hatred and Redux are both awesome and benefit from mutual cooperation. Originally posted by J'Mar DeDos El Medio: It's the hatred killer! Even Hatred had to come here to promote their FPS mod, like a bunch of jealous babies! LMAO. I personally like the original more but the Redux is still good and will hopefully see to having more improvements over the original over time. Both games are still very similar in the overall experience and it's just a matter of preference. That said, the Redux has it beat in every other department regarding controls, feedback and the overall presentation (the reduction in noise pollution from NPCs yelling the same lines over and over is also welcome). There's something about the atmosphere in the original Postal that I find more surreal and eerie than in the Redux. Most controversial however is the original ending that isn't in the Redux at all, and which ending you like more is a matter of preference. Sound design is generally better (guns, bullet ricochet, people screaming and suffering) and lends a rawer tone to the already dry and tasteless looking aesthetic. The lack of texture mapping on the cruder looking characters leads to a less-than-human look, like a vague representation of humanity despite sounding very realistically like people, making it creepy to hear them in pain and suffering/dying. Postal '97 has a grittier look to it, the art isn't as colorful and most of the level loading screens are more abstract as well as acidic in appearance, as if they'd burn your hand if you reached out and touched them.
